"Ah, Alinar, if you are amenable, perhaps we could use one of the scrolls you have that could open an arcane door? Do you have a Knock spell in your bag of holding? I would suggest we try that.
"If that does not work by itself, Andric, perhaps we can then also try your suggestion to say the word open in elvish."
If Alinar has a Knock scroll (or another scroll that opens an arcane door) that he is willing to lend, D'nar will read the scroll casting Knock on the doorway.

Alinar looks at D'nar and Andric with a raised eyebrow and says: "Are you sure. There could be hundreds of potential phrases, you really think this is the one?"

Watching Alinar raise his eyebrow at him, Andric takes his upper lip and pulls it down over his front teeth as low as possible, then says, "Alinar, I am not certain that the word is 'open' in elvish at all; I merely offer up my ideas for collective mastication. Perhaps we can re-read what the inscription says on this side of the door? Ian? Dnar? Can one of you read the inscription aloud?"

Alinor steps back and looks at all of you
"We all know the inscription says 'key word', which may be a word or a phrase, probably in the elvish tongues, which, yes, I actually do speak.
"But is there some reason you are all so obssesed with the word 'open'?"

"Yes, I think you are both right - Alinar that the inscription says nothing of open and Andric that we should re-read the inscriptions.
Re-reading the inscription, I see Alinar's point. The inscription says nothing of the word open.
"The inscription reads "Say the key word and knock". One thought is, if it is literal, is to simply say 'key word' in elvish. Or pehaps simply 'key' in elvish? The other thought I have is to say the word "three" in elvish as the elvish rune for 3 is inscribed above the doorway?"
Since I do not speak elvish perhaps Andric you can step up to the doorway and try these key words? Any other thoughts on key words or phrases that might be obvious or common in the elven tongue?"

"I hear and understand what you both are saying, Alinar and Dnar. Here are the words in elvish that I think might be the key word or words:
(elvish) Show. Reveal. Welcome. Enter. Open. Key Word. Three."
Andric says these words/phrases over and over in elvish, while knocking on the door with his hands. Then in the middle of his elvish chant, Andric says, "Perhaps someone could cast the spell now, yes?"

Andric begins saying the words and sometimes hitting the door...nothing happens...even hitting the door doesn't make much of a sound, it just continues to gently humm.
"Hmm, yes, I guess we could try the scroll, is that all we can think of?"

"For my part, I cannot think of any other words or phrases that we could try. Unless someone has another idea - I think we need to try Knock."
If Alinar is amenable, D'nar will ask for a Knock scroll (or ask Alinar to cast).

And so, after much trying, “Place of Fire” was said, and the door of elvish brass made a great sound. The scroll of knock was unfurled, and a door opened...
At about this time, Elmo, Terjon, Rufus, and assorted militiamen and soldiers arrived, to cover the backs of the Heirs plus Alinar as they ventured through the gate.
…On the other side of the mighty door stood a platform, like the others in the room, but bigger, with elvish brass worked into the black metal that covered its surface. Alinar, D’nar, Andric, Bertram, Ian, and Tocs step on it, and make a long journey.
They find themselves in a place of great heat. And they are not alone, before them stands Job, Caldor, and Galen. The last engaged in an extended ritual of some kind.
The two parties greet each other, and realize they may have a common purpose. Any remaining doubt is dispelled by the appearance of the Astral Deva Galen summons. He tells them they must stop the ritual that is but moments away. Then vanishes.
Andric scouts ahead. He spies a colossal, vaguely humanoid, being made of fire, sitting on a truly gigantic throne. Next to the massive being stands a reddish creature who he would eventually realize was a kind of medusa (actually, a medusa half-elemental cleric and doom dreamer).
Preparations are carefully made. Galen and Bertram each become ogre sized (but still dwarfed by Imix). Then battle is joined!
Bertram, Ian, and Alinar hurl searing light at the being. Caldor summons forth a storm, reinforced by an air elemental! and uses it to call lightning down on the Elemental Prince. D’nar calls forth his own a storm of ice, and hurls orbs of force. Galen, and eventually Bertram, brave the mighty sword of the being to attack it directly, wielding the Mace of St. Cuthbert and a cold iron frost bastard sword. In this they are joined by reapearing Angel.
Job, Andric and Tocs risk stoning to dispatch the medusa and engage a fire elemental and a junior salamander who seek to reinforce the battle.
But Imix counters, attacking everyone in his long reach like a whirlwind, over and over again. The damage he inflicts, and resists, is truly massive. But as he seems to weaken, Imix suddenly vanishes in a truly great puff of smoke. All the doors around the room, slam shut!
The nine heroes are trapped.

The allies gained a moment, and used divine power to restore their strengths. But soon enough, the doors reopen. And Hedrack, high priest of the Outer Fane who had driven back—and nearly killed—the Heirs more the once, and Lareth the Beautiful, former master of the Moathouse that had twice before tormented them and evaded their reprisals. Hedrack announced to one and all that Lareth was in fact the Champion of Elemental Evil, and that the time for the ritual was at hand. They where not alone, an Efreeti leading other elemental allies attacked from the other side, and in the middle of the great chamber, Imix made his reappearance, having healed much of the damage inflicted minutes before! The situation was grim. While Andric, Tocs, and Job held off the effreeti and its minions, the others faced both the Prince of Elemental Evil and the powerful clerics. The Angel made a valiant attack on Imix, but was destroyed. Ian, and later Bertram, would find themselves both close to death. It would come down to the agents of Chaos, D’nar and Caldor, to confront the two clerics of Elemental Evil. Each bearing an Orb meant to help free Tharizdun from his prison, but also offering protection against the clerics’ magic. The clerics didn’t know what hit them. The Chosen of Pallifax easily handled the Champion of Elemental Evil, and D’nar showed no mercy as he sought to escape. Meanwhile, Imix would be hit with enough strikes of enchanted blades and magic spells to kill 100 normal men, eventually turning him to a harmless cloud of smoke. Elemental Evil was stopped, and the ritual averted! The two bands of adventurers have little time together. Lareth and Hedrack almost certainly arrived at the Throne of Fire in the same way as the Heirs, and must have fought their way through the brave people Hommlet that stayed there to stand guard. Alinar fears what sort of mayhem resulted, and so, leaving the Orbs to the Firewolves to destroy them, they return to the platform on which they had arrived, and soon enough are being carried back to Terra Viejo. The Heirs arrive in back in the gate by Nulb to find many hurt by the cultist incursion…Terjon passes his last breath and dies.
But Ian does not let the old cleric pass away completely. Then, after a nights rest, the three Heirs and two cohorts return with Alinar to Caladonia and make their way to the High Loch. The once abandoned town is now a marshaling point, with Templars and Dwarves of the Holds of Avalon. Valdoron leads a small band of elves. And Cannoness Y’Day is there.
It could have been a hard fought battle. But the success of the Fire Wolves…
…have shattered the Doom Dreamers and weakened their followers. The forces of right easily sweep through the remnants of the cultists in the Crater Ridge Mines and enter the inner spire. The doom dreamers howl in madness, and strange things—of which nothing may be said—are revealed. The Cult of Elemental Evil is destroyed.
