While back in his part of the tower, Andric remembers...
...a few years back meeting a human ranger(?) and a grey elf fighter(??) who had been adventuring in the area. While fascinated by their tale, much ale was had, and the memories are few and fading, but something he saw lately...what was it...
[whatever John can remember, Andric can remember...]

Much ale makes memories churn and roil, but perhaps Andric recognized seeing the human ranger and the grey elf fighter on one of the tapestries in the Nemoren manor?

No. No connection to that. Though it would be incredible, given that the tapestries are centuries old.
The memory is far more personal, but clearly has faded over the years [at least for John]

Hmm, perhaps Andric remembers mention of a human ranger and a grey elf fighter, who fought with his elder eldar brother Ixyleander. Did they accompany Ixyleander into battle? Were they lost along with Ixyleander to the brigands?

After the parting of D'nar, Bertram proceeds to Hexham, there to converse with the brothers at Hexham's abbey. When appropriate for him to speak he starts to relate the group's adventures to the monks: "My Brothers in Christ, my former colleagues and I have returned from Weston, where we have recovered Amelia, the former wife of Baron NeMoren. We found her (or perhaps her spirit) imprisoned in the form of a red-orange mist contained in a glass vial. When we broke the vial she appeared. She informed us that it was the work of coven members which had imprisoned her all those years ago, chief among them the witch Lisette, who we defeated in her new ghoul-form. The vial containing Amelia was found in a cavern north of the town which was infested by sentient fungi and shrieking mushrooms. It was in this same place that we located this vial (Bertram produces the vial of blue-green mist). I detected faint evil from the vial, though it still may contain a fairly powerful evil creature. We learned that there were rumors of an evil creature "haunting" the area around these caves who was no longer heard from. I thought it best to bring the vial here to the Abbey for safekeeping." "In the chamber where Amelia was located, there were various designs on the wall, some of which I recognized as pertaining to the coven. There was a three sided pyramid, an upside-down cross, and a glowing or burning eye. I recognize the cross. Do any of the others seem familiar to you? In any case Amelia was able to confirm the coven's role in her abduction, and the duplicity of her once-friend and admirer, Sir Argoth. He worked with the coven to deliver her into their hands. What may be of some importance, we discovered Argoth recently murdered and when we inquired of his corpse (through the use of Divine power) who was responsible for his death, he said a name that sounded like, "Rikkator." Apparently this is some member of the coven who hired an assassin to kill him." "I know I am interupting the daily routine you Brother's have her with my wild but true tales, so I will soon leave you be. But first I will ask if you have any knowledge of the coven or the matters I speak of. In any case, I wish to make a contribition to the Church, and give thanks to God for seeing us safely through the ordeal. (Bertram donates 360 pence and 120 shillings of his money total 150 shillings)" Assuming the monks have no interest in buying the signet ring or the pearls (might be good as spell components for them), Bertram will then start heading south to Worcester. He will stop at the first large town, perhaps somewhere in the Yorkshre or Lancashire area to try and sell the signet ring (not his Blandings signet ring, the one the group found as treasure) and three pearls. More to come.

Bertram finishes with the brothers at the Abbey, gladly taking in any information they can give him about the Coven or "Rikkator." He is interested to see what, if anything they say about the mysterious vial. If they are interested in buying any of the items he wants to sell, he will sell to them. After praying and making his donation, he heads south.
Bertram will, as indicated previously work his way south to Worcestershire county and his family home. As he does so he looks for an appropriate place to sell the items he carries, including the statuette. He also looks for a suit of half plate if one can be had. Depending on how much he gets for his chain, he may have to choose between new armor and extra training, which he would also like to do (up to the maximum amount). Also, in the largest of the towns, perhaps York itself, he will see if he can price Goblinbane. Any magic armor or weapons around by any chance to trade?
When he eventually reaches Worcester, after a quick stop at Blandings castle (such as it is) for proper prayer and washing, he will present himself to Worcester Cathedral, the offices of the Bishop of Worcestershire. There he will make an appeal to the Bishop's Deacon, or assistant that may be present, bowing, "Bertram Blandings, son of Uxbridge Blandings, Lord Worcester, presents himself as a candidate for ordination and final vows."
Bertram will inform the Deacon, or if appropriate, the Bishop about the happenings up North, including ESPECIALLY the run ins (albeit tangential) with the Coven, the symbols in the cavern, and the mist filled vials. While Bertram awaits the Bishop's decision, he will pray and train (and briefly visit his Mum).

While Bertram has left to go spend time with stuffy monks in dark abbeys and Andric has gone to consort with others of his kind, D'nar knows what to do with hard earned treasure and how to reap the rich spoils of difficult and dark work. After Bertam takes his leave, D'nar will go to the Hexham tavern. Being unfamilar with this strange land, having come from Occitan, D'nar asks the Hexham locals where he can find the nearest large town with a good tavern (or twelve), perhaps Worcester if that is the nearest large town, and shall look for a good game of cards or dice, a soft bed, and maybe one or two other creature comforts or wild temptations that he can spend his hard earned schillings on.
All in all, he is simply looking to eat, drink, be merry and perhaps parlay his loot into a bit more if fortune smiles upon him.
While whilling away his time in a dark inn or tavern, D'nar seeks out someone who can perhaps help him learn some new skills - skills that will aid him in combat and perhaps give him abilities to avoid danger or acquire skills of stealth and cunning; skills that suit his penchant to achieve his aims while not needing to have "a fair fight."
D'nar is willing to pay a fair value to learn the rogue's skills and is confident he will be able to find someone in a local tavern who can teach him well.

Bertram: The monks in the abbey are happy to receive your donations. The symbols spark some discussion amongst them. The burning eye seems familiar from a fraction of the Coven that was once active in the area. Some think that it might have been based in that village you saw the sign for: Hommlet. From what you tell them, they suspect that the vial may in fact be a trapped creature of some kind, and agree to store is somewhere safe.
As a parting gift, they give you 2 vials of holy water, 2 bunches of powdered silver and a great scroll holding cure light wounds and divine favor.
You find the city of York to be the place to trade your items. You sell your chain-mail and treasure (signet ring, coins of elven brass, and pearls) in return for a suit of half plate and 677 shillings.
There, you journey with traders heading south and avoid any unusual encounters. Your family is proud to hear of your adventures in the north. After your ordination, your father brings in minstrels to sing the tales of Galahad and Roland, both great paladins. And you find time to refresh your riding skills, and to learn to wield the sword you are carrying, as befits a crusader. But you also pray as the realization of being Father Bertram comes upon you, and donate more to the Church.
[Add one level paladin, +1 wisdom, and 600 XP. Bertram spends 800 s, should leave enough to buy a light horseā¦]

D'nar heads to Alnwick (see reply #27 and the "out of charecter thread") where he finds all he seeks. Nobody has even heard of "wurster"
He also reads through the Tome--it proves good practice for decipher script--which adds to his already considerable charm. He sales the necklace, coins of elvish brass and pearls for 1440 shillings.
[D'nar adds one level in rogue, +1 to Dex and +1 to Cha, and 1000XP. He spends 1200 s. Leaving more then enough for a short sword (10 shillings), or a short bow (30 shillings)...]

The little statue[: This odd and not very nice little statue has little value. It can be left with the monks if desired.
The coins of elvish brass: Each of you find, in time, that each of these fetches 20 s, the same as a gold pound. Bertram and D'nar have sold theirs...

The hiers return to Weston on July 20, 716 AI after being summoned back by the mysterious half elf ranger Aniel. There they find a anonomous note encouraging them to venture to the neighboring village of Hommlet...in the mean time, they are eyed by a large horse, and meet Lord Rothbury, brother of the Earl, who turns out to be the owner of the horse.
In Hommlet, they find the Church of St. Cuthbert, the Inn of the Welcome Wench, and of course the Moathouse, where they also find a blue dragon! How it got there, they know not, but it drives them away. Only with the help of Terjon, Canon of the local church, do they manage to slay the beast.
After their victory Terjon speaks: "A dragon there was and a dragon we slayed. Perhaps we can explore a bit more, though we must be cautious, as defeating this monster has taken much...and of course, I will have to be getting back to that church at some point" The last bit is spoken somewhat under his breath in a kind of growl.
[XP: Each heir earns 1100XP, which includes both the dragon--minus Terjon's quarter--and some more for poking around Hommlet. By my calculations, Andric and D'nar should now each have 8500 and Bertram 8100]

"Congratulations everyone on a successful dragon slaying! To participate in such a glorious endeavor so early in one's career is truly remarkable. And Bertram and Terjon, a special gratitude extended to your clever use of divine grace; your gods are impressive! Is it possible to hold an audience with your gods, to express my gratitude personally? Until then, what say you all to entering the room?" Perhaps Bertram needs to restore some of his wondrous divine energy, others may need to rest or recuperate.
If/When we all decide to enter the room, from which the dragon emerged, at the base of the tower, I will enter cloaked and stealthy, trying to spot and search the room alone first, taking care to examine the ceiling as well as the floor. If we decide to do something else, then these plans are moot.

Dusting himself off as best as he can, Bertram allows the remaining seconds to pass until he shrinks down from 11+ feet tall to his normal size. He then returns to the consecrated area, kneels and prays. After a prayer of thanks for seeing the group through their ordeal, he prays to have God grant him two more spells of Cure Moderate Wounds. Now to use them.

Calling D'nar into the consecrated area, Bertram casts a cure moderate wounds on his Gypsy friend. Then Bertram casts a cure moderate wounds on himself, exhausting his day's spells. 2D8+5 each I believe.
